people like to do a lot of shit talking when it comes to protests like these but as someone who has protested and been arrested- multiple times- these people are heroes. these people are legitimately putting their bodies, freedoms, and lives on the line for these causes. and some of these causes directly impact the people who talk shit about these protesters. i will forever stand by and defend protests like Just Stop Oil, Free Palestine, and Black Lives Matter, and any others that dare to face these draconian governments so willing to sacrifice its people for the profits of these corporations

I feel like the problem with just stop oil is they make people angry at THEM, which makes people less willing to listen. I agree with their mission to make the government listen because they’re right it needs to happen, but I feel like there’s more productive ways of doing so. How? I don’t know tbh. There’s so much money in it for MPs, forcing them to do the right thing is hard. What I’ve noticed is there is 2 axis’s that a protest can boil down to. Attention and action. You need a balance of both over all to be effective with a few caveats. The problem I’d while JSO and their parent organisation extinction rebellion are great at the attention side the action less so. Like a protest that hit both marks would be green peace’s boulders in the English Channel to prevent bottom trauling fishing.

I get the disruptive protests of Stop Oil is 'annoying' but the police crackdown is extreme and worrying. Several years ago, they made a woman suffer irreparable brain damage after they caused a traffic jam. She was having a stroke, and her son was trying to get her to a hospital. These people aren't doing anything for climate change. Whenever they do something disruptive, no one is talking about climate change. They talk about how ridiculous and silly these people are. Now that they've effectively turned normal people against them, the government is free to ignore or crack down on them. No one cares about your cause when you're seen as a joke or a nuisance.

The FFF protests had vastly more effect on bringing peoples attention to climate action, but more importantly they had an infinitely bigger effect on convincing people that we have to act (and that acting can change something).
